Executive Chairman

Lt Gen Adan K Mulata is the Executive Chairman, Peace Prospect Institute-Africa (PPI-Africa).  He is a Defence, Peace, Security, Governance, Conflict Management and Social Transformation Expert. He boasts of a career extending over 43 years. He attended a wide range of academic and professional training in flying, command and staff courses including the prestigious National Defence College (NDC-K).

He holds three MA Degrees: International Studies – Institute of Diplomacy & International Studies, UON, 2017, MA in Social Transformation, Specialization in Governance – Tangaza University College, 2017 and MA in Peace Studies & Conflict Resolution – Lancaster University, UK 2003. His first Degree, BA Sustainable Human Development – Tangaza College, 2014. Due to his exemplary service, he was awarded medals of honor including, Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (MGH) 2020, Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) 2017 and Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) 1994. He was Winner of the ‘Andover Essay Prize’, RAF Staff College Bracknell UK, 1995.

As a 2-star General in the KDF, he had the opportunity to manage military operations, doctrine and training at all levels; matters strategy and policy. He oversaw and was directly involved in Kenya’s participation in the African Union Mission in Somalia and other regional engagement such as Inter-Governmental Authority for Development, East African Standby Force, Ceasefire & Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring & Verification Mechanism – South Sudan and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. Later as 3-Star General, he was involved in handling strategic issues such as combatting terrorism, securing national elections, managing multi-agency coordination and participated in various strategic national and regional discussions.

Lt Gen (Rtd) Mulata has had the opportunity to represent Kenya at the United Nations on deliberations regarding participation in peacekeeping operations, separate bilateral engagements between Kenya – US, UK, India, Jordan and Egypt all with strategic level outputs. At the apex of his career, he chaired the national multi-agency team which developed the first National Security Policy and Strategy for Kenya, which enabled him to understand deeply issues of human security in all dimensions in the global, regional and national levels arena.

Having reflected on the global socio-political and economic challenges for the last 43 years, the General believes that it is time for the world to delve deep in the question of human suffering with the aim of establishing workable solutions that are acceptable and offers a win-win for parties in conflict. The knowledge, experience and exposure which the General acquired while in the military will remain invaluable to assist and contribute positively to any institution or organization. He has the passion and is keen to offer his services in matters peace and security in the continent of Africa, particularly in the EAC and IGAD region.
