High-Level Dialogue on “Re-imagining Democracy in Africa – SOUTH AFRICA

Thursday and Friday (June 19–20, 2025)

Our Executive Chairman, Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Adan Mulata, proudly represented PPI-Africa at the High-Level Dialogue on “Re-imagining Democracy in Africa: Comparative Experiences from the Global South,” held in Pretoria, South Africa.

The dialogue was convened by International IDEA, in partnership with the African Union, Open Society Foundations, Switzerland’s FDFA, the European Union, and South Africa’s DIRCO, as part of the global celebration of 30 Years of Supporting Democracy Worldwide.
The event brought together distinguished voices, including HE Dr Abdalla Hamdok, former Prime Minister of Sudan; Speaker Thoko Didiza of South Africa; and prominent experts from Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

Across two intensive days, participants engaged in dynamic sessions on democratic renewal, civic participation, electoral integrity, institutional reform, and inclusive governance, with special focus on youth and women’s leadership.
The dialogue culminated in the adoption of the Pretoria Consensus, a forward-looking communique that will guide strategic policy efforts to defend democracy and reinforce solidarity across the Global South.
