Prospect Peace Institute is an independent policy research and consultancy firm based in Nairobi.  The Institute exists to respond to contemporary global geo-political dynamics in economic, political and military spheres which are factors of the increasing state fragility, conflicts or instability across Africa. 

The Institute thus seeks to strategically influence policy-making, approaches and strategies in security, defense, foreign policy, peacebuilding, conflict prevention, management and resolution, governance, regional integration and cross-border relations in Africa.

Operational Strategies

  • Conduct applied research in order to constantly scan, map, assess and analyze the global geo-political dynamics and related impacts on governance, peace and security in Africa.
  • Analyze the implications of contemporary global geo-political dynamics on key regional economic communities (RECS) and regional integration in Africa especially in the IGAD sub-region.
  • Leverage national and County government engagements in Kenya as a model for championing good governance practices, human security, grassroot peacebuilding and improving livelihoods.
  • Strengthen the capacity of governments, non-governmental, research and academic institutions to understand and respond to contemporary geopolitical, security, governance and development challenges.

Exposure and Reflection

Having been exposed to and reflected on the global socio-political and economic challenges for the last 43 years, the management believes that it is time for the world to delve deep into the question of human suffering with the aim of establishing workable solutions that are acceptable and offers a win-win for parties in conflict. The knowledge, experience and exposure acquired by senior management while in the military and other departments will remain invaluable to assist and contribute positively to global challenges. PPI-Africa is driven by passion towards humanity and is therefore keen to offer services in matters peace and security in the continent of Africa, particularly in the EAC and IGAD region.

Contribution to Peace

Most of the PPI-Africa senior managers have taken part in global and regional peace intervention missions. They have also attended regional and global forums on peace, security, governance and policy. The executive chairman has had the opportunity to represent Kenya at the United Nations on deliberations regarding participation in peacekeeping operations, separate bilateral engagements between Kenya - US, UK, India, Jordan and Egypt all with strategic level outputs. At the apex of his career, he chaired the national multi-agency team which developed the first National Security Policy and Strategy for Kenya, which enabled him to understand deeply issues of human security in all dimensions in the global, regional and national levels arena.
